Make a real wish on your birthday

July 06, 2012   sam   No comments
To get what you want in life, ask these questions when you blow out the candles Birthdays are, in their essence, a ritual to mark the passage of time. A flag you dig into each peak as you pass by. But they are also impolite reminders that you have finite time to muck about in this playground. Do you really want to spend that time working hard to get a car that's bigger than your cousin's car and then wait for an opportunity to rub it in his/her face? While we may all be on our unique journeys, some wants are universal. Use your birthday to remind yourself of your real wishes and then focus o

Faking love can lead to real romance

July 05, 2012   sam   No comments
Behaving as if you have really flipped for someone can make you fall in love, according to latest research. Richard Wiseman, professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, tested the theory by holding a speed dating night in which some of the prospective partners acted as if they were already in love with each other. They were were encouraged to gaze into each other's eyes, to touch hands and to whisper secrets. Then at the end they were questioned as to how many people they met they felt close to and how many they would like to see again. Under the normal speed dating behavi

Men aren't hard-wired to be unfaithful after all?

July 05, 2012   sam   No comments
A study has undermined the long-accepted theory that men are hard-wired to be unfaithful while women seek monogamy. University of California researchers examined the fruit fly study by English geneticist Angus John Bateman in 1948, and proved that the long-accepted theory was incorrect. The study, led by Patricia Adair Gowaty, a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, found that females may be just as promiscuous as males, Daily Mail reported Thursday. In fact, Gowaty said Bateman's study should never even have been published. Musing on the reasons why the original experiment was ne

What his cooking style says about him

July 05, 2012   sam   No comments
If you want to figure your man out, all you need to do is ask him to whip up a meal. So, is he the reckless lover, the protective boyfriend or someone looking for adventure? Mr Compassionate He might be a version Bill Clinton or a Paul McCartney. Most vegetarians are usually concerned with health, environment or humane treatment of animals. So expect him to be warm-hearted and understanding. At the same time, he may be fussy and over-particular. One thing that is likely to put him off is food wastage; make sure you take the right amount of food on your plate. The trick lies in being casual

Some boys think reading is a female pastime

July 03, 2012   sam   No comments
Boys are falling further behind in reading because of a lack of male primary school teachers and the macho belief that it is just 'for girls', a new report has revealed. According to The 2012 Boys' Reading Commission report, around one in five boys think that someone who reads is boring and 'geeky' because the pursuit is a 'feminine pastime'. The report has warned that this 'gender gap' is widening and the Government should recruit male volunteers to pay weekly visits to schools to act as reading role models, the Daily Mail reported. Around 60,000 boys failed to reach the expected level in

Live-in couples happier than married ones?

July 03, 2012   sam   No comments
The idea that that marriage has health and happiness advantages over cohabitation may be overrated, a new study has suggested. The study has asserted that while both marriage and cohabitation provide benefits over being single, these reduce over time following a honeymoon period. "Marriage has long been an important social institution, but in recent decades western societies have experienced increases in cohabitation, before or instead of marriage, and increases in children born outside of marriage," said Dr Kelly Musick, Associate Professor of policy analysis and management at Cornell Unive
