Warner should just concentrate on cricket: Mark Waugh

May 21, 2013   sam   No comments
Former Australia Test batsman Mark Waugh said today that some players are getting ahead of themselves and need to pull their heads in. He was making a reference to David Warner's twitter rant against two journalists. Warner had attacked two noted Australian cricket writers on his twitter page after one of them wrote a piece critical of the Indian T20 League, which is currently mired in a spot-fixing scandal. Warner, who plays for Delhi, launched a series of abusive tweets, and in response to that Cricket Australia decided to conduct a hearing against him after charging the player for a breach

N. Zealand media slam 'meek surrender' at Lord's

May 21, 2013   sam   No comments
New Zealand media on Monday condemned the Black Caps' lack of fight in their crushing First Test defeat to England at Lord's, when they collapsed for just 68 in the second innings. The total was the 10th lowest at the "home of cricket" and the ninth worst by a New Zealand team, reviving memories of the Black Caps' humiliating dismissal for 45 against South Africa in Cape Town in January. Fairfax Media sports writer Marc Hinton said it was not so much the loss by the world's eighth-ranked Test side against the second that grated, but the players' failure to display the grit that Kiwis demand of

Brendon McCullum backs batsmen after 'hour of madness'

May 21, 2013   sam   No comments
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum insisted he still had faith in his batsmen after an "hour of madness" cost the team dear in a thumping first Test defeat at Lord's. England went 1-0 up in the two-match series, with more than a day to spare, after dismissing New Zealand for just 68 to secure victory by the huge margin of 170 runs. Stuart Broad, who took a Test-best seven for 44, did the bulk of the damage Sunday as New Zealand's pursuit of a victory target of 239 ended inside 23 overs. An otherwise even contest changed in the hour before lunch on Sunday as New Zealand slumped to 29 for six.

Big relief for us: White

May 20, 2013   sam   No comments
Hyderabad were run close before Darren Sammy's blows against Iqbal Abdulla helped the hosts to the play-offs of the sixth edition of the Indian T20 League. Hyderabad's batting had let the team down in a lot of the games this season and it looked like their weakness had come back to haunt them even after a solid 89-run stand between the openers Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan before Sammy's successive sixes ensured Bangalore had to bow out of the tournament. Hyderabad skipper Cameron White was obviously relieved that his team went across the line and gave themselves a great chance to actually

Rain washes out Pakistan's Scotland one-day clash

May 20, 2013   sam   No comments
Pakistan's one-day international against Scotland was washed out on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh. The match was due to start at 0945GMT but heavy rain in the Scottish capital in the preceding 24 hours had left the outfield sodden. Match officials Mark Hawthorn and Ian Ramage ordered five pitch inspections, while Grange ground staff were given until almost 1400GMT to address the problem but it was eventually decided the pitch was in no condition for play. "It's really disappointing. We hung about for quite a while today hoping to get even a T20 match in but it wasn't

May 20, 2013   sam   No comments
The Indian cricket governing body, BCCI top brass had always wanted to carry out a proper accreditation process of Players' Agents but the proposal met with a "lot of resistance" from senior players in the earlier years. "A few years back, BCCI was almost ready to carry out accreditation process of the agents but it met with a lot of resistance from senior Indian cricketers.
