Being in love makes one both blind and stupid

June 19, 2012   sam   No comments
Love is not only blind, it also makes you stupid, a new research has claimed. Prof. Robin Dunbar, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of Oxford, argued that the rational parts of the human brain shut down when experiencing the feelings of love, according to The London Times. Dunbar developed his theory after analysing the findings of UK brain experiments carried out over a decade ago at the University College of London. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research looked at the brain activity of 17 volunteers as they were shown pictures of their boyfriends and girlfriends, wit

To dad, on Fathers Day

June 18, 2012   sam   No comments
From my father, I learned to be tolerant, secular and liberal, values that now define who I have become. This Father's Day I will call my home in Delhi. After a chat with my mother she will place the phone next to my father's ear. He would be propped up in a chair, his face shrunk from old age, his one seeing eye staring into the void. From my apartment in New York, I will repeat a couple of short sentences: "Hello Daddy!" "This is Aseem!" "How are you feeling?" "Happy Father's Day!" If I am lucky - as I was the last time I "spoke" to him, a month ago on his 84th birthday, he will respond b

June 14, 2012   sam   No comments
Teens and young adults who listen to digital music players with ear buds are almost twice as likely as non-listeners to smoke pot, a new study has revealed. The research also claims that those who attend concerts or frequent dance clubs are nearly six times as likely as homebodies to go on a binge-drinking bender, LA Times reported. These findings are based on survey results that were collected from 944 low-income students at two vocational schools in the Netherlands. The students were aged from 15 to 25, with an average age of 18. The study authors, public health experts in Rotterdam, foc

And, the most common cost of these friendships could be dissatisfaction with current romantic partners, the study has suggested. June 14, 2012   sam   No comments
To accept the end of a relationship is always difficult. While some of us manage, given time and counselling from friends or family, there are some who are more inclined to go over the edge.
